Whitehall Marina, Whitehall, NY - 6/12/12

We left Ft. Edwards at 8:05 a.m. after contacting the lock which was less than a mile away and they said it would be ready for us when we got there.

Following Charlotte.C
We followed our Canadian friends, Gilles & Nancy down the creek to the lock.

Working Tows
When we got out of the lock we encountered more dredging boats that were taking the spoil about 2 miles up the canal.  We were contacted by the tow and asked to pull over in the narrow canal in a wide spot until they got by.  Here you can see Carried Away and Charlotte.C behind us.

We had to wait just a few minutes while this tow pushed a barge into place.

Champlain Canal
The canal is pretty narrow but since we haven't met very many other boats it was not a problem.

Champlain Canal
The scenery was so neat I don't know why anyone would go through the Erie Canal instead of taking this trip.

Carried Away - Low Bridge
We went through the bridges first so Carried Away could judge their height a little better.  We were told by the first lockmaster that we should not have a problem but as you can see if you click on the photo, it was very close.

Coming into Whitehall
After 25 miles at a slow pace we came into Whitehall Marina.  This place is under new ownership and they also have purchased the Lock 12 Marina across the canal.  We cannot say enough nice things about the marina.  It is a work in process but the employees bent over backwards to make our stay enjoyable including running the ladies to the store and post office and even went to NAPA to get me oil and filters for my next oil change. They sent a mechanic down to the boat to check our genset but the darn thing started at least 5 times like a charm.  Later that evening I tried it again ... didn't work so here we go again.

No more low bridges
While the ladies went to the store I helped Bill finish putting all his canvas back on the fly bridge.

Tomorrow we have reservations at Westport, NY where hopefully I can get our genset and inverter looked at since we will need both in Canada and that marina is reported to have the best mechanics on the lake.

Our position is N 43  33.557   W 073  24.048
