Kingston City Marina - Kingston, NY - 6/5/12

Carried Away & Quest left Half Moon Bay at 8:30 a.m. in hopes of catching a rising tide all the way to Kingston for 57 miles which worked.

Leaving Half Moon Bay Marina
Moor $tuff is staying another day or so to tour NYC some more.  Hopefully we will meet them again along the way.  We have decided to alter our trip north and go up the Champlain Canal to Montreal instead of using the Erie Canal.  Two reasons for this decision is that the Erie has had damage from last years hurricanes that are still being repaired plus the fact that the small towns along the canal have suffered from the financial slow down and are slowly dying. It also will eliminate a long trip down the St. Lawrence River.

Following Carried Away to the main channel
We followed Carried Away out of the marina and into the main channel of the Hudson where we picked up Jim & Belinda (Rickshaw) who had been at anchor last night.  Jim assumed the lead and we both followed.

Nuclear Plant
Another place to keep your distance and stay in the channel.

Anthony's Nose
This part of Bear Mountain had an unusual name.

West Point

Deep & Fast
As we rounded the bend past the main buildings of West point the current had picked us up plus it was very deep.

West Point - Constitution Point
This is the spot where they put the chain in the water over to Constitution Island to keep the British from using the river to attack.

CIA - Culinary Institute of America
Looks really big from the water.

Mid Hudson Light

Rondout Creek Light
We turned port at Rondout Creek and traveled a short distance to our marina for tonight.

We passed these on our way in.

Kingston City Marina

Carried Away lowering radar
Tomorrow we have to pass under a 20 foot bridge on our way to Waterford and since we don't know if it raises, Bill lowered his radar so they could clear it just in case.

This cute 1985 Tug followed us in the marina.

Tomorrow we will catch the 9 a.m. tide for Waterford where the Erie and Champlain Canals intersect.  There is a free dock at the visitors center which will be nice for a change.

Our position tonight is:  N 44  55.022  W 073  59.039

  1. Your N coords should be 41 degrees instead of 44 degrees!

  2. Can not believe you would pass up the 30 locks on the Erie and 4 upbound locks on the St Lawrence to Montreal for 20 locks on the Champlain Canal:-0
