Esopus Creek, Saugerties, NY - 6/6/12

Ever had a day where nothing went right?  Today was ours.  We had decided to leave on the flood tide at 9 a.m. for Waterford with Carried Away but when we tried to start the gen set ... it wouldn't.  Apparently a wire had come off one of the heat sensor override controls and had to be repaired.  Rickshaw had planned to go about 15 miles up the river and anchor so they were doing some boat jobs and planned to leave about noon. Our repair didn't take too long but long enough we couldn't make Waterford so we all decided to leave at noon for the anchorage.

Fixing generator
While the boat jobs were being done on Quest & Rickshaw,  Bill & Joyce went to the museum.

Breakfast at Rachel's Deli
The gen set was repaired by 10:30 so Ricki & I walked across the marina and into town for breakfast.

Tanks
We needed Fuel so we left the marina at 11:15 and went up the creek to another marina for 142 gallons of fuel @ $4.35 per gallon (ouch!).  We radioed the other two boats when we finished and all of us left the creek together.

Esopus Creek Light
A nice ride up the river for 15 miles and then we turned into the creek.

Rafting
After Rickshaw & Carried Away were tied together, we dropped our anchor and backed into the raft up.  When we tried to snug the anchor chain the windless didn't respond so in the morning we will have to retrieve the anchor manually.  The windless repair will have to wait until we land somewhere for a day or two.

While we were having a late lunch of hot dogs on Rickshaw's sundeck we got a call from Moor $tuff and they made it to the anchorage by the time we finished lunch.Later Ricki fixed taco soup for dinner before we all turned for the night.  Tomorrow we will go on to Waterford which should be about 50 miles.

Our position tonight at anchor is:  N 42  04.207  W 073  56.527

  1. We sure have had some of 'those' days! Our steering system had to be replaced when we got to Marathon; new parts for the generator in Marathon. Our windless quit when we'd only been in the Bahama's for 2 weeks! Paul's been pulling by hand for over 4 months. Been a great workout for him. Everything costs more over there and he knew he could wait till we got back to the states.
All that stuff happens to us all at some point in time; all you can do is hope you are in a good place when it does.
