Along with Carried Away we had decided to leave at 8 a.m. this morning

Leaving |
|
Downstream side of Lock 12 |
This was the last lock we went through yesterday and will be the last for a long time.
|
Champlain Canal |
A very pleasant ride for many miles up the canal. We are now going with current and life is good. We still are not seeing any looper boats at all.
|
Dirty Fenders |
After 12 grimy lock walls this is what our fenders look like so Ricki has taken the task of cleaning and waxing them.
|
Fort Ticonderoga |
|
Cable Ferry |
As we passed the fort we noticed a tour boat full of kids which was going into the dock near the cable ferry landing so we stopped so not to wake them while they we getting off. We also did not want to go behind the cable ferry until we made sure the cable was on the bottom.

Cleaning Fenders |
First mate hard at work. She spent a good part of our trip today cleaning all the fenders.

Cleaning Supplies |
|
Clean Ball |
Good job !!!

Lake Champlain |
The canal was as smooth as silk but when we hit the wide lake it got pretty snotty with 3 to 5 foot waves on the bow for the final 6 miles. After 49 miles we landed at Westport Marina which is reputed to have the best mechanics on the lake so hopefully we will get everything fixed here. The same family has owned it for over 30 years and their attention to details are apparent from the help and attitude of everyone. The ship store is the best we have seen since leaving Cape May.
We will probably stay here another day before heading up the lake toward the Canadian Border which is only 60 miles away. We will change our phone service to a Canadian plan but will not be able to use our air card until we get back to the USA so will have to depend on WiFi in the marinas when available.
Our position is: N 44 10.936 W 073 25.833
The summer of 1966 during the day I was a drummer boy at Fort Ticonderoga!
