After breakfast at York River Yacht Haven (free to boaters on Saturdays & Sundays), we pulled out at 9:15 after getting a pump out. Since we were several miles up the York River, it took nearly an hour to reach the bay. A storm is predicted for later in the afternoon so we decided to leave early for the 44 mile run to Norfolk.

Chesapeake Bay |
The bay was smooth when we entered and it was a very pleasant ride south. This was a very different ride compared to the rough water we encountered on our last couple of ventures last year coming from DC as well as Tangier Island.
|
Thimble Shoal Light |
Half way down the bay we turn at the Thimble Shoal Light slightly west. The bay has been a little choppy for the past few miles and I am glad we will be entering the harbor and river system.

Naval Base
|
A couple miles north of Waterside we pass by the Naval Base. This time by it seems about 50% empty compared to last year when it was nearly full and we had patrol boats watching our every move. We still give it a wide pass.
|
Great Looper Burgee |
Our tattered and worn burgee. Each marina we go into this burgee prompts a get together by other loopers. We will see 50 or 60 boats in the marina by Monday flying this burgee to attend the Looper Rendezvous next week.
|
Private Yacht |
We passed this gorgeous yacht right before the marina. Could this be our next boat?
|
Waterside Marina |
We entered the marina at 2:15 after getting instructions on docking. When I called the marina for docking instructions the dockmaster wanted to know if we could maneuver since our spot is very tight right beside the marina office building. NO PROBLEM .......

Happy Anniversary |
We celebrated 21 years of bliss at Joe's Crab Shack just a few yards from the boat on the waterfront. After all those years she still has the "new wife smell". Other eateries along the waterfront include Hooter's and Outback and I am sure they will get sampled before we leave.
|
The Tourists |
One of several cute statues along the waterfront.
We will be here until next Saturday before heading north again.
Our position for the next few days is N 36 50.645 W o76 17.585
