Peterborough Marina, Peterboro, ON - 7/13/12

Today the six of us, Bruce & Anne, Marc & Michelle and Ricki & I, took a taxi van to the Peterborough Museum & Lock Visitor Centre.

Arrow Plane
The museum had a large display regarding the development and demise of the Arrow.

Apparently the Prime Minister of Canada and the President of the company were at odds and the Prime Minister shut down the project in order to fund his agenda of social programs. Over 14,000 employees were affected but many found jobs in the USA since they were so advanced in their field.

Peterborough Lift Lock
The lock is amazing. To make it work, only one foot of water (130 tons) is added to the top pan to make it heavier and as it goes down the bottom lock gets raised using the pressure created in the 7 1/2 ram supporting it.  This picture shows a tour boat pulling right up to the gate so 2 other boats along with a couple kayaks could come down.

Trent-Severn Waterway
Here is our travels over the next few days.  When we go through the next lock we will have cleared half of them on the waterway in less than 1/3 of the distance.  We are still locking up for awhile yet.

Parks Canada Employee  (Chelsea Clinton?)
We suggested that she contact Bill since he was known to wander around a little to check for a DNA match .

Elements Cafe
The taxi dropped Bruce & Anne and Ricki & I off at the Ribfest downtown while Marc & Michelle went to the computer store to pick up a new battery for his laptop.  We found a neat watering hole to wait on them to return.

This is one big party.  Many vendors of ribs along with a display of the trophies they have won are along the main street.

We picked the one with the most trophies and were not disappointed at all.

Ribfest Entertainment
We got there at 4 p.m. when it opened and the entertainment started immediately.  Several different groups were scheduled to perform until 10 p.m.

Marc & Michelle
They had tables set up in long rows to eat on ... must have been seats for several hundred.

Folks were even sitting next to the water eating as we walked back to the marina.  A Blues Festival was getting started at the Holiday Inn next to the marina so I am sure we will hear it from the boats.

We enjoyed adult beverages under a tree at the marina then went to our boats.  Another AGLCA member has parked their new Mainship 400 next to us and we invited them over for awhile.  They had bought the boat in Rhode Island and were on their way home with it to Canada.

Tomorrow Ricki has plans to meet the other ladies and go to the Art Museaum while I do engine room chores getting ready to move on toward Buckhorn Sunday.
