Old Mill Park, Campbellford, ON - 7/9/12

Several boats in the marina have decided to leave early tomorrow morning for Campbellford at 7:30 or 8 a.m.  Since the locks on the Trent do not open until 8:30 and the first lock is only a mile away, we decided not to leave until 8:30 in hopes that the other 4 or 5 boats would already be through the lock. While we were waiting, I walked into town and took a couple pictures.

Downtown Trenton

Frasier Park Marina
Quest is the boat with it's nose sticking into the waterway.  Marc's Ark is right behind us.

This is what we saw as we pull out of the marina followed by Marc & Michelle.

Lock #1- Blue Line
We caught up with Why Knot as we approached the lock.  We tied to the Blue Line which means you are ready to lock behind Why Knot.  The locks are not very wide and only 110 feet long so they can only lock two 40 footers at a time which separated us from Marc's Ark until we got to Campbellford.

Kids Swimming
These kids were diving off an old bridge as we left one of the locks.  Our travels today included 12 locks, 6 of them in the first 2 miles.

Some of the canal is very narrow and lined with rocks.  You can see down several feet into the water and all you see is more rocks.  The trick is to stay in the middle!

Critters on the lock walls
This is one of the reasons the water is so clear.

Foot Bridge

Canadian Geese
And we thought we had a bunch.  These things are everywhere and we have been told they poop every 8 minutes!

We traveled 30 miles today but with the 12 locks we didn't get here until 5 p.m.  Much of the canal has a 10 klm speed limit which is almost idle for us.  We have already went through 91 locks since last May with many more to go.  Total for the trip to date is 122 locks.

We intend to stay here tomorrow and tour the town since we got in late today and after walking into town for dinner with Mac & Michelle, turned in for the night.
