After going to the laundromat and breakfast at
IHOP, we came back to the boat and walked around town.
The
waterfront area has been revitalized and is very nice. Waterside Marina is located just south of the Naval Base and next to the park.
There is a large building next to the marina that houses several eating places including Joe's Crab Shack & Hooters.
The marina is virtually empty since most transits heading north have already passed through. There was only 2 other boats plus Quest & Moor $
tuff today.
The park area has a fountain of shooting waters that kids love to play in.
Large groups of kids have been in the area each day.
The town mascot must be mermaids since they are everywhere. This one is on the side of a building.
This is a statue of "Homecoming" that is in the park where the ships are berthed.
The park down the street next to where the Japanese ships are berthed.
In the park there was a patio that had "scattered letters" from service men in various conflicts.
There were three large Japanese ships in port. They were part of their homeland defense.
Another mermaid in the park.
Battleship USS Wisconsin sits permanently in the harbor.
Our hard working
dockmaster. It is rather boring for them at this time of the year.
Tomorrow we are going to Yorktown to check out a couple spots to leave the boat this winter. Hopefully we will be putting Quest up on the hard in early September then come back to finish our adventure next May.
