Norfolk, VA - 8/1/11

Road trip .....

We picked up our rental SUV early this morning and headed for the Outer Banks of NC since neither of our boat guests have ever seen them. It was a trip of 160 miles down through Kitty Hawk, Nags Head, Cape Hatteras and Ocracoke.

To get to Ocracoke we needed to board the ferry from Cape Hatteras that took 40 minutes to cross the sound.

Many years ago when Ricki & I were traveling through here we stopped at Howard's Pub & Raw Bar on the island and was greeted by the owner, Buffy Warner, who was originally from Fairmont, WV and a former State Senator from his county. We stopped again at his place which is now owned by his widow and has expanded way beyond the small place of 20 years ago.

We caught the 5:15 ferry back to the main land.

Here's Doc in his "car seat" on the ferry ride.

We stopped just before Nags Head to let Doc play in the water and get sand and water for Ricki's crab.

Cricket, Huen and Doc

The other couple

I spotted a beautiful chocolate lab walking the beach with his owner and tried to take his picture ... but missed! Only got his hind legs!

The beach where we stopped.

The famous Hatteras Light house.

A very enjoyable day ended late by the time we got back to the boat. Tomorrow we are going to explore Virginia Beach which is only a few miles away.
