Off we went.
Don't know if this bridge still works but it is on rollers and appears that it would extend across the canal to the other side.
Our lookouts for debris. Since we only had about 3 to 4 feet under the boat and the canal is very old with lots of trees that have fallen into it, we did bump underwater stuff probably a dozen times but nothing serious.
The lock operator has to open a bridge for us then drive to the lock and lock us through. This is the northern lock on the swamp that lowers us about 8 feet with 5 or 6 miles left to Norfolk.

This schooner is docked across from us and is a real party boat. It loaded 50 young folks about 7 p.m. and took off for the evening. When it returned about 9 or so it sure was apparent they were having a good time.
Waterside is located at N36 50.38 W76 17.37
We are planning on staying here a week so we can play tourist.
