Demopolis Yacht Basin, Demopolis, AL - 11/14/10

After a nice anchorage and raft up of all three boats in our little flotilla and a calm rain during the night, we started out of the oxbow shortly after 7 a.m. for the 50 mile run to Demopolis. Stan (Next Endeavour) led the way followed by Skip (Moor $tuff) and Quest and set a very liesurely pace of 7.5 MPH. As a result, when we got here our fuel mileage on this tank (130 gallons) had increased to 2 MPG. We traveled through some very pretty scenery including the white cliffs of Epes. Don't know what material they contain but it is as white as chalk. The marina is one of the major stops for barge tows to fuel however it isn't as large as some we have stayed. We heard that this barge plans to take about 16,000 gallons. Can't believe I complained abot a $380 bill. When we first called in for a slip, I was told we may have to raft up since they were jammed with boats but when we got there we are in a slip as is Moor $tuff but Next Endeavour is tied to the fuel dock. Draft is very important here as it is very shallow. My slip is supposed to have 56 inches of water but as I have to back in for power connections, I shut down the engines as soon as I started in then walked it in just in case. The finger slips are supported and separated by a metal bar the lays on the basin floor under each slip so it could ruin your day quickly. The ladies took the courtesy car to the store and came back with groceries as well as McDonalds. Didn't know a Big Mac could taste so good after not having one for many weeks. Tomorrow when we anchor out again, dinner will be on Quest. Sounds like a pork roast could be in the crock pot part of the day. We may get a late start because Next Endeavour is experiencing charging issues underway and has an electrician coming. Rain is expected for the next couple days so it won't make a very pretty backdrop for pictures but we will try anyway.
Moor $tuff also is keeping a blog if you want to see another side of our trip. Their website is http://www.moorstuff.blogspot.com/

Our position tonight is N 32 31.631 W 87 50.327
