Columbus Marina (second day) - 11/11/10

Another beautiful day near 80 degrees and sunny. We took advantage of the weather to clean all the windows inside and out and now the boat looks really good. We slept in late, had a big breakfast and then worked all day. Not too exciting but definately made us feel and look better. In the evening at 5 p.m. all the loopers got together in the picnic area for drinks and conversation regarding who was leaving when and where they were going to go. It would create a marina problem if 9 or 10 boats all show up together for docking since most are only equipped to handle 5 or 6 transits. This marina is definately an exception with lots of room. We also got our laundry caught up which is a chore. This marina has 2 washers and dryers so it doesn't take too long for 4 or 5 loads.

Tomorrow we have a short run to Pirates Cove Marina. Many of the loopers are going to anchor at a place called Sumter Landing but we prefer to be in a marina if possible.

BLADON SPRINGS, Alabama -- An explosion aboard a 40-foot pleasure boat at a camp in southeastern Choctaw County injured a man and burned his boat and another nearby, the Alabama Marine Police reported.
The explosion took place around 12:15 p.m. after the victim, who was not identified, refueled his boat at Bobby's Fish Camp on the Tombigbee River, halfway between Bladon Springs and Coffeeville, about 100 miles north of Mobile.
The explosion caused the 40-footer to sink, and a second boat, a 20-footer, burned to the water line, said Marine Police spokesman Mike Coleman.
The victim was thrown into the river and suffered burns to his lower extremities. He was taken to Grove Hill Memorial Hospital in Clarke County before being airlifted to University of South Alabama Medical Center.
