Started the day by putting up the new undercounter microwave after a quick trip to the laundromat. We decided to take another road trip into old town Panama City in the afternoon with Skip & Barb so when we were ready to go, Skip I took the old microwave to the dumpster. When we returned to the car to leave, Ricki thought she had forgotten her sunglasses so I went back to the boat to retrieve a pair for her and got a phone call to see if I had removed a brand new Paula Dean sauce pan out of the microwave. Long story short ... 2 grown well dressed, clean men were seen dumpster diving for a pan, which we did recover. Otherwise a great day with hamburgers to die for at small cafe in downtown Panama City. When we returned to the boat our neighbors, Pat and Dick on a beautiful 46 ft DeFever invited the 4 of us on board for adult beverages. Good ending to a good day.
Tuesday - 1/4/11
Another morning of boat chores. I spent most of the morning fishing a new supply line thru the galley cabinets for the new microwave. And yes for those asking ... we are still storing the Paula Dean sauce pan in it! Skip changed the oil in both his 454 engines and fuel filters then we decided on another road trip back to Panama City. First to West Marine (Boater's Paradise), then a great Mexican dinner and saw the movie True Grit which was awesome. Tomorrow the ladies want to go shopping so I still have more chores to do here ... thank goodness. We have contacted our friends Bill & Charlotte on Precious Time who have already gone to Steinhatchee to see if they will bring their charts over Friday when they come for the rendezvous so we can mark ours for the trip we will make beginning next Monday. We will be going first to Carrabelle on Monday, leave late Tuesday and go part way to an anchorage then on in to Steinhatchee on Wednesday so we can go in in daylight to miss the crab traps. Depending on weather, we will probably head on down the coast to Tarpon Springs by the weekend. After sitting here for a month we are ready to move.
NAUTICAL SUPERSTITIONS: Pouring wine on deck will bring good luck on a long voyage. Women on board a ship make the sea angry, but a naked woman aboard calms the seas [How 'bout that Nikki]. A stolen piece of wood mortised into the keel will make the ship faster. A silver coin placed under the masthead or engines ensures a successful voyage.
ReplyDeleteHi Guys!
ReplyDeleteI've been following your blog since we passed you up in MS. The route you are going to take sounds interesting. We just dove right in the Gulf from Panama City because the sea's were supposed to be 1'. They weren't! But, we took them head on, which was fine. Calmed down and we had an awesome full moon. Flat seas for our last 7 hrs into Clearwater. No problem with crab pots. Took us 23 hrs. Good Luck, I know the seas are getting crazy again! We know we'll see your boat some time this winter in sw FL!
