At 9 a.m. we prepared to leave Metro Marina by turning Lucky One loose, then Quest followed by Moor $tuff. The marina had pretty calm water but as we went out into the river we hit the rising tide. We had hoped to catch a falling tide for our run back down the St. Johns, but it didn't happen.
We went about 10 or 12 miles when we passed under this bridge and ...
The tide changed in our favor. Our speed ranged from just over 8 mph to well over 11 mph at times running at 1650 rpm.
When we turned off the river into Sister's Creek (AICW) our speed fell to 8 mph as we were again running against the tide.
Big homes were seen occasionally but not as often as further south.

We encountered many miles of marsh that was really close to the channel. Several times we had depth alarms at less than 3 feet of water. The tide range in this part of the trip is between 4 and 5 feet.
We arrived at Fernandina Marina at 1:30 and since we were running last in our flotilla, waited outside the marina for the other 2 to get secured.
Between the marina and old town is the train station that is now a tourist information center.

Fernandina Beach has had the distinction of being claimed by 8 different flags in it's history. Like St. Augustine it also suffered destruction by fire.
What happens tonight will be on the blog tomorrow!
This is looking from outside the restaurant we ate in toward the marina and train station building. As you can see we still have a lot of smoke in the area from all the fires.
Trains still run the tracks between the marina and old town.

The marina we are in tonight.
We couldn't help but notice our new neighbor that came in while we were in town eating. They told us it was 148 feet long.

Right after we landed here Huen called a mechanic recommended by the marina to look at his genset. One hour after arriving the mechanic had it fixed without installing any parts. Turned out to be air in the injectors.
Tomorrow Skip & Barb are taking a bus tour of the city but since we have been here several times by automobile, we elected to shop instead. We are all meeting at a coffee shop in the morning before going different directions. We are all planning on one more night here before entering the challenging waters of Georgia.
