Marathon, FL - 3/3/11 (day 34)

Early today I checked with the dockmaster about the status of our slip, whether or not the other boat that had reserved it starting Friday was indeed going to show up. Apparently they were coming down from Naples and towing a sport fish boat and staying in a condo. I suggested that since the wind was so strong, they wouldn't want to go out into the bay or ocean either until the weekend and things would work out. His response was that the slip was reserved and he would have to honor that if they show up and actually tried to call them while I was there in his office but had to leave a message. This place has really been very nice and cooperative and I totally understand, but the thoughts of dropping an anchor in 25 to 35 mph winds isn't exactly in my bucket of things to do. So just in case we have to move we did our little chores ... Ricki did the laundry and I spent time in the holy place checking liquid levels, etc., had dinner aboard, watched a little TV and off to bed. Tomorrow the winds are still predicted to be 20 to 30 mph so it doesn't look good for us to leave the Keys until Sunday or Monday.

  1. I can't imagine those boaters with the reservations leaving here and going out on the rough Gulf! The sea's are up to 10' dropping down to 7-8' tomorrow night. I would think they are hunkered down in a safe marina. The winds have been howling for 4 days now! Love the low humidity! A neighbor boat had been down to Everglades City for a couple days got back yesterday and were quite happy to be back to their slip yesterday.
Just thinking you should be able to keep that slip thru the weekend.
