Marathon, FL - 2/5/11 (day 7)

Today was a day of chores for us. I cleaned all the no-skid surfaces on the boat which is the job I hate. I really want to repaint them while we are here because they are starting to show wear. Ricki worked on some inside projects that she needs to get in the mail soon. Our original plan was to stay here for 2 weeks then move on up the coast of Florida but since the monthly rate was far more inexpensive than a 2 week stay, we may just stay for the entire month. Words cannot describe this paradise. Nice weather, beautiful water, and all the comforts of home.
Sue and Darrel from Present Moment stopped by in their dinghy and shared our sundeck for awhile today. They are at the first marina coming into the harbor channel and we are at the last, a distance of a couple miles apart.

Many thanks to our BYC friend, Mark at Zzzipnet for fixing our photo issue remotely from home. I sure have a lot of respect for folks that understand these things. Apparently when we changed our photo program it eliminated the ability to enlarge our photos on the blog. We believe it is now fixed!

Since today was not too exciting, I thought it might be a good time to give an update on our stats.
Number of days since leaving ...... 141
Number of travel days .................. 50
Number of days in marinas .......... 136
Average cost per day ..................... $ 35.26 (we had 30 days free at Port St. Joe that we won at the looper rendezvous at Joe Wheeler that I took out of this calculation)
Average cost per foot ..................... 88 cents
Total miles covered ........................ 2,851
Gallons of diesel used ..................... 1,827
AVG MPG ........................................ 1.6
AVG cost per gallon ........................ $ 2.99

As far as our "budget" is concerned, we have covered 38% of our trip, used 45% of our fuel budget and 17% of our dockage budget. Of course we are sitting here with full tanks which will get us another 350 to 400 miles before another fill up. Fuel in the Keys is pretty pricey at $3.58 per gallon when you are pumping over 200 gallons.
