Day 13 - Green Turtle Bay

Today we traveled from Golconda Marina to GTB, a distance of 52.7 miles and 2 more locks. That makes a total of 12 locks so far with another 140 or so to go. It seems like it took forever to get off the Ohio River but it was only 11 days and 740 miles. Those of you that have had the pleasure of coming up the Cumberland from the Ohio remember how narrow, uneventful that 31 miles can be. I had made a reservation at GTB the day before and when we started down the secondary channel to the marina, the dockmaster contacted us with our slip assignment which is slip "A", right beside the marina office and a short walk to the yacht club. We plan to stay here until Monday then start up the Tennesse River and 277 miles to Joe Wheeler State Park in Rogersville, AL where we will attend the AGLCA meeting. We have given ourselfs 8 days for that trip so we can poke along very slowly and enjoy. We have been thru this part of the trip at least twice before but it was always hammer down trying to get at least 100 miles per day so this time we are going to marina hop along.

During our walk around the marina after we docked, it seems that 50% of the transit docks are flying the looper flag. We stopped and talked to one couple from Chattanooga that is finishing their trip in the next 400 miles. They had been on the loop since March 2009.

A note to Janice Wigal's mom ... dinner at the yacht club was great. I know how she likes to keep track of that kind of stuff!

Our location for those trying to find us is N 37 00.356 W 88 132.71
